Conditional Sentence

            Conditional Sentence adalah complex sentence (kalimat majemuk) yang dibentuk dari subordinate clause yang di awali dengan subordinate clause If berupa condition (syarat) dan main clause berupa result/consequence (hasil).

Ada 4 (empat) Type Conditional Sentence yang biasa digunakan. Yaitu: Type 1, Type 2, Type 3, dan Type 0.

1.       Type 1

Conditional Sentence yang di gunakan ketika result/consequence (hasil) dari condition (syarat) memiliki kemungkinan untuk terwujud di masa depan karena condition-nya realistic untuk dipenuhi.

If + condition, result/consequence

Atau

Result/consequence + if + condition Will + bare infinitive/imperative + if + simple present

               

Contoh:

                (+) If I have free time I would go to the mall

                (-) If you don’t obey your mother, your mother will be angry

                (?) If they asked you to play, would you want?

2.       Type 2

Conditional Sentence type 2 atau second conditional adalah Conditional Sentence yang digunakan ketika result/consequence (hasil) dari condition (syarat) tidak memiliki atau hanya sedikit kemungkinan untuk terwujud karena condition-nya tidak mungkin di penuhi di masa sekarang atau sulit untuk dipenuhi di masa depan.

If + condition, result/consequence If + simple past, would/could/might + bare infinitive

Atau

Result/consequence + if + condition Would/could/might + bare infinitive + if + simple past

Contoh:

                (+) If it heat, I would black

Fast: But I don't have much hope it will heat

                (-) If Nina figh hard, she wouldn’t fail.

Fast: But Nina doesn’t figh hard

     (?) If nina figh hard, would she succes?

3.       Type 3

Di gunakan ketika result/consequence (hasil) dari condition (syarat) tidak ada kemungkinan untuk terwujud.

If + condition, result/consequence If + past perfect, would/should/could/might have + past paticiple

Atau

Result/consequence + if + condition Would/should/could/might have + past participle + if + past perfect

Contoh:

                (+) If I had you teach, I would have met you yesterday

                (-) If you driven your motorcycle carefully, you wouldn’t have got an accident.

                (?) If I had asked you to buy a plane, would you going to buy me a plane?

4.       Type 0 (Zero)

Conditional sentence yang digunakan ketika result/consequence dari condition selalu terwujud karena merupakan scientific fact (kebenaran ilmiah) atau generaltruth (kebenaran umum) yang merupakan habitual activity (kebiasaan). Bagian dependent clause (if+clause) dapat diawali oleh kata “if” atau “when”.

If/when +condition,result/consequence If/when +simple present + simple present

Atau

Result/consequence + if/when + condition Simple present + if/when + simple present

                Contoh:

                (+) If I thirsty, I am drink

                (-) Today is rain, you’ll cool if you don’t wear jacket

                (?) When today is winter, you use the jacket?
